What Powers The Electric Pickup

The affordable electric pickup – the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning – hit the streets with the goal of appealing directly to the existing truck market. It looks like its internal-combustion cousins, but with a solid grille and aerodynamic wheels. The EV pickup appeals to drivers who want to get away from gas and need plenty of cargo space and capability.

The electric pickup truck comes with two electric motors – one on each axle for all-wheel drive. It has a 98-kWh battery pack for 462 horsepower. Drivers can choose a beefier 131-kWh battery pack with 580 horsepower. Regardless of the battery pack, the truck’s dual motors deliver 775 lb-ft of torque for impressive zero-to-60 times. The standard battery pack provides 240 miles of range, while the extended range pack delivers between 300 and 320 miles of range.

Drivers have plenty of charging options. At home, a Level 2 charger takes about 20 hours to fill the battery pack. The fastest charging is via DC Fast-Charging, and these speedy charging stations add 50 miles of range in about 10 minutes.

Features In The F-150 Lightning Electric Truck

The F-150 Lightning has a standard 12-inch touchscreen with a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo. Drivers can add an optional 15.5-inch touchscreen with SiriusXM Satellite Radio, wireless device charging, and Bang & Olufsen 18-speaker stereo.

Drivers only get the 5.5-foot truck bed with 52.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The Lightning also has a unique front storage area or a frunk, in the area where the combustion engine would be. This unique EV feature adds 14.1 cubic feet of cargo space.

The standard safety features include Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic High-Beam Headlights, Rear Parking Sensors, and a Rearview Camera. These features are standard on the Pro trim. Drivers who choose the XLT can add upgraded Co-Pilot360 features that include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering Assist, and more. Drivers can add BlueCruise on the Lariat and Platinum models.
